Canada travel days: visitor, tax, PR and citizenship
Canada uses different records for visitor permission, tax residence, permanent-resident obligations and citizenship. Most visitors may stay up to six months unless an officer sets another period. Tax residence is fact-sensitive, while citizenship uses a separate physical-presence calculation.

Visitor status
Check the passport stamp, visitor record or other official direction for the actual authorized period. Do not convert “up to six months” into a rolling annual allowance.
Tax residence
CRA considers residential ties and other facts. Day counts can matter, including the sojourning context, but a single total does not settle every residence question.
Permanent residence and citizenship
PR residency obligations and citizenship physical presence have different periods, credits and exceptions. Review the separate sourced rule pages rather than transferring a total between them.
Keep records by purpose
Keep the visitor record or passport evidence, tax-residence facts and citizenship calculation inputs separate. A CBSA travel-history report can help reconcile movements, but each program sets its own accepted evidence and calculation.
